Aurélien Arbet is an art director, co-founder of the clothing brand and publishing house Études. 1.This is the only artist by this name 2.Having learnt music from the age of 6, benwaa (Ben Walthew) has been inspired by the emotion, feeling and freedom this gives. Starting out on the violin ben progressed to the trumpet and cornet at the age of nine and also the bass guitar at 14, on which he was self taught. Ben's musical tastes at this time lay firmly with guitar laden rock music, the likes of metallica, nirvana and also lo-fi acts such as sebadoh and palace brothers. At 16 a major change in ben's life occurred leaving him exposed to the sound of the orb, fsol, orbital et-al giving him a new and exciting perspective on music and how it could influence our very being to the core. Ben began to explore more and more electronic music as time went on until discovering sasha and john digweed's northern exposure - this blew him away and instantly made the best move of his life and swapped his car for a set of decks and a mixer, ben's love of electronic music became a serious passion for him and havin dj'd over the past 11 years in various places around the world including berlin, bulgaria, london and holding a residency for 2 years in the fat cat basement bar in bangor north wales. Also playing on pirate radio the other side fm, and a label showcase mix for deepx records, ben is now an accomplished and celebrated dj. In the past 5 years ben also turned his hand to music production such is his love of music, his solo project under the guise of benwaa brings dancefloor friendly grooves and beats mainly in the form of minimal, tech and electro although no style is adhered to overall and has also become very accomplished at his techniques. Ben also heads up one half of MaLm with martin standen. Putting out music that has no rules or boundaries MaLm take you on an aural and emotional journey with every track and always in a way that is pleasantly surprising. Having recently released their first e.p. The MaLmness e.p. A journey of ambient emotions and weirdness. Another is in the pipeline but with a typical MalM twist. Ben is also currently working on his solo project in his home studio on a couple of new tracks which are nearly ready for release. For any info please feel free to message or email ben
