Army of Lovers is a Swedish pop music group founded in 1987 by Alexander Bard. The group became known for its elaborate and provocative visual style, often featured in music videos that were at times controversial and occasionally banned from television networks such as MTV. Their costumes were designed by Camilla Thulin.

The original lineup included Alexander Bard, Jean-Pierre Barda, and La Camilla (Camilla Henemark). Over the years, the group’s lineup changed multiple times. La Camilla was a member from 1987 to 1991, and returned in 1996, 2001, and briefly in early 2013. Michaela Dornonville De La Cour replaced La Camilla in 1991 and remained until 1995. Dominika Peczynski joined in 1992, remaining active through 1996, then returning in 2001 and again in 2013. Bard and Barda were consistent members from 1987 to 2001, and participated again in the 2013 reunion.

Army of Lovers released their debut single "When the Night Is Cold" in 1988. Their first album, "Disco Extravaganza," was released in 1990 and retitled "Army of Lovers" for its 1991 release in the United States and the United Kingdom. This was followed by the album "Massive Luxury Overdose" in 1991. After La Camilla's departure, the group reissued the album with additional tracks and updated artwork featuring new member Michaela De La Cour. During this period, La Camilla released a solo single titled "I Am Not in the Mood for Lovers."

In 1992, the group expanded to a quartet with the addition of Dominika Peczynski. That same year, they recorded "Hasta Mañana" for an ABBA tribute album. Subsequent albums included "The Gods of Earth and Heaven" (1993) and "Glory, Glamour and Gold" (1994). The group disbanded in 1995.

They reunited in 1996 to release the compilation album "Les Greatest Hits," which included four new tracks. Michaela De La Cour declined to rejoin, and La Camilla returned for the recording. The group disbanded again later that year.

In 2001, Army of Lovers reformed with La Camilla to release another compilation album titled "Le Grand Docu-Soap," which featured three new cover songs.

Alexander Bard later became involved in the music projects Bodies Without Organs (BWO) and Gravitonas.

In 2013, Army of Lovers reunited once more to participate in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, performing the song "Rockin’ the Ride." That same year, they released a new compilation album that included four new songs: "Rockin’ the Ride," "Crashing Down," "Signed on My Tattoo," and "Tragedy."

The group's name is a reference to the documentary "Armee der Liebenden oder Revolte der Perversen" (Army of Lovers or Revolution of the Perverts) by Rosa von Praunheim, which itself alludes to the Theban Band, a historical military unit in ancient Greece.
