forwards and backwards through bits of a [mostly] electronic music timeline. reverence for BCR. records i’ve played forever and new records i’ve just found. boil it down. one z in drizle.
Formed initially in 1962 by Winston Riley and a group of youth club friends, The Techniques were first recorded by club owner and future prime minister Edward Seaga. As ska slowed to rocksteady and morphed to reggae, and Jamaican music booned in popularity across the world towards the 1970s, Riley remained the one permanent member of The Techniques, honing his production craft and creating hits that would break the US and UK charts. He created music tirelessly, well into the 21st Century until his passing in 2012. Enjoy an hour of some of Jamaica's best music from a reggae polymath on this In Focus.

'Unconscious Collective' is the first album by PS5 - the new ensemble led by Pietro Santangelo (Nu Guinea, Slivovitz, Fitness Forever). It’s a further step in the label’s path in trying to connect the musical tradition of South Italy, the love for African-American music, and new ways of expression.
It’s a musical experiment where layered memories and hidden feelings resonate as if they arise directly from the most recondite part of the unconscious and produce a suspension of the stream of consciousness. With the aim to create a state of trance and override the human reason, this is an imaginary round trip across the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, ideally connecting Naples with North Africa and Latin America.
Two years and a half after 'Unconscious Collective' PS5 returned to Hyperjazz Records with their new album 'Echologia' (January 2024). The first single from the album was 'Caldera' which is an expression of contamination and balance: continuous search for multiculturalism that becomes coexistence of musical languages seemingly distant. A bubbling rhythm that metaphorically exports heat and vibrations from the underground to redistribute them to the surface, where the diverse culture of humanity proliferates
PS5 are: Pietro Santangelo - tenor and soprano saxophone, vocals Paolo “Batà” Bianconcini - percussion Giuseppe Giroffi - alto and baritone saxophone Vincenzo Lamagna - bass Salvatore Rainone - drums
