Chicago
15:58 - 17:00

Few other labels can lay claim to such a foundational role in the origin myth of house music as Chicago's Trax Records. Home to, and often introducing us to, artists like Frankie Knuckles, Joe Smooth, Armando, Phuture, Marshall Jefferson, Ron Hardy, Larry Heard and many more. Trax laid the sonic foundation of jacking rhythm tracks with a distinct disco feel. The formula remains much the same to this day. NTS selects two hours of Trax classics and deep cuts.

Jaan Patterson

Jaan Patterson

Jaan Patterson has been played on NTS in shows including Fractal Meat On A Spongy Bone, featured first on 27 February 2014. Songs played include Niño Patata. Erster Satz Für 77 Stimmen..

Jaan Patterson is best known for his Surrealist & Dada inspired experimental music, blending acoustic sounds and field recordings with an array of electronic devices. He crosses himself crossing bridges of perception, pointing out qubits, displaying the juxtapositions of the so-called suRRism-Quantum-methods, uncovering the peripheral gaps that inhabit the drawers of musical genres that our brains want to work in. It's about break-points in the architecture of the usual conveniences that the casual listener expects. Patterson unveils the curtain from the stages of the absurdist transparrentoformatological distortions that mind gives a matter to. He even crushes the beyond to stellar gums. After publishing the suRRism Manifesto with Frater Surrallee in 2008, Patterson founded suRRism-Phonoethics - a non-profit record-label specialising in experimental music, since 2013 co-curated with Anthony Donovan. He also co-curates Classwar Karaoke with Donovan. The two projects are responsible for the release of thousands of pieces of experimental music, film and writing, by hundreds of artists worldwide.
