Isaac Aesili

Isaac Aesili

Isaac Aesili has been played on NTS in shows including Dark & Lovely Global Roots w/ Thristian, featured first on 24 November 2013. Songs played include Africa and Saturated.

“One of the most exciting soul talents to emerge from the South Pacific!” (Benji B, Soulful Deviation; BBC1 Xtra)

Isaac was adopted and raised in Aotearoa, New Zealand with Guyanese, European, and Maori heritage. Over the last decade Isaac has been an integral member of many New Zealand bands including: Solaa, Opensouls, The Tornadoes, Eru Dangerspiel and Recloose Live. As a producer, trumpet player and DJ, Isaac’s music is focused around fusing Soul, Funk, R&B, Jazz and Electronic music. Isaacs debut solo album Eye See is out on Soulab Records. Experimental and futuristic in some parts, warm and soulful in others, the album, Eye See is an extension of its author, is a tribute to diversity.

Recently Isaac completed an album with his brother Mark McNeill under the artist name Karlmarx. This album is entitled 'The Karlmarx Project' and it is out on Melting Pot Music. The Karlmarx Project got started as an experiment in combining the different tastes of the two brothers together to see what the fusion of these would sound like. Karlmarx have enjoyed radio support from Benji B, Gilles Peterson and Lefto. The song "Mists“ is featured on the Brownswood comp "Lefto & Simbad present Worldwide Family Vol.1“

The concept behind The Karlmarx Project is an album which is a soundtrack for a science fiction movie that was never made. It is entirely instrumental and consists of a combination of styles that Karlmarx are heavily influenced by. Some of the main influences are electronica, techno, synthpop, industrial, future soul and instrumental hip hop.

Watch out for Isaac's Future Soul collaboration album with Rachel Fraser Chequered Thoughts by Funkommunity.
