New Wave/Post-Punk/Experimental/Alternative Rock band from Rome.
The project starts in 1985 around the figure of Marco Bedini (the only member that during the time will be the constant motor of the group). The actual formation sees the presence of : Marco Bedini (voice & drums), Maurizio Bozzao (electronic effects), Vincenzo Caruso (bass), Alberto Mattaroccia (multi-instrumentalist). During the whole time of activity we can find a lot of artists, musicians and eclectic personages like collaborators of the project (20 and more in the whole discography). Another important figure of the group is Tiziana lo Conte, the vocalist of the band in the majority of the records. Together with Marco Bedini, she is the principal interpreter of the Gronge music. Many vocal parts of the songs are presented in a sort of ‘post-punk cabaret’: Tiziana Lo Conte in a lot of songs sings in a theatrical style, with an alienated voice. The themes of the songs are often on political issues, with nonconformist points of view. The obsessive refrains and the energetic rythmns are the sign of a basic punk/post-punk approach. The music is also caratcterized by industrial and other experimental rock influences. The same members of the project in the time have called their music ‘Techno-Punk-Cabaret’ (the record of the 1993 uses this definition like title).
Discography:
1985, Classe differenziale (demo tape) 1986, Fase di rigetto (self-realised) 1987, Gronge & Move (split with the italian goth band Move) - A&D records 1988, La nave dei folli (Amen production) 1991, A Claudio Villa (original sound) - Wide Records 1992, Vota Gronge - Wide Records 1993, Tecnopunkcabaret - Interbeat/WEA 2007, Coniglio di Stato - Interbeat 2010, Senile Agitation, a Giovanni Lindo - Contempo Records 2012, Dolci Ricordi (self-realised)
