QUINTAL DE CLOROFILA were a psychedelic folk duo, formed by brothers DIMITRI and NEGRENDE ARBO. They were part of a set of folk groups comprised of “gaúchos” (native country people) that appeared in the 1970s, with groups like Almôndegas (minced meat balls), Utopia and Grupo Terra Viva (Alive Earth Band), and continued to exist in the 1980s with groups like Tambo do Bando, Couro, Cordas & Cantos (Leather, Strings & Songs) and Quintal de Clorofila (Garden of Chlorophyll). Quintal de Clorofila is one of the few who got to make a record, which was released by the independent label Bobby Som in 1983. For this LP, the group recorded their own compositions, with lyrics by their brother, the poet ANTONIO CARLOS ARBO. According to Dimitri Arbo, the band mixed jazz, rock, medieval music, Afro, oriental and Latin rhythms; and named their kind of music "Viking Rock." It's a complex sound to be sure, with tremendous depth and abundant inspiration evident throughout all of the album's atmospheric songs.
