Ambrose Reynolds - freethinker, musical maverick, reluctant genius.
The original bassist in Liverpool's legendary Big in Japan, (1977) he left to form Ded Byrds with his buddie Knopov. They signed with Sire in 1978 but after a 'band coupe' by Wayne Hussey (see The Mission) the Ded Byrds (renamed by Hussey as Walkie Talkies) fell apart and Ambrose, inspired by the press photo he'd put up on the Ded Byrd's rehearsal room wall decided to form a new band called 'Frankie Goes to Hollywood' with Holly Johnson. Ambrose also found time to play bass with Nightmares in Wax (Pete Burns) and to record a series of astonishingly innovative pieces under his own name using just a bass, a revox 2 track tape machine and various found items. FgtH didn't last long for Ambrose and he soon joined up with Jayne Casey to form Pink Industry who released a range of albums on their own Zulu Records. In the late 80s Ambrose took his 'found objects' philosophy to it's ultimate conclusion and formed 'Urban Strawberry Lunch' a musical unit that only uses instruments made from junk. The USL band soon became more involved in education and 'social' elements of music making and have now been Ambrose's full time gig for 10 years. He likes tea.
