The trip-hop group Baby Namboos consists of programmer/songwriter Mike Porter, vocalists Claude Williams, Leo Coleing and Aurora Borealis, drummer Mad-dog and bassist Julian Brooke. Porter began the band in 1998, when he went to New York City to visit his cousin Tricky, who encouraged his musical explorations. Soon after, Porter and his friend Coleing began recording in a Manchester studio, adding band members along the way. Tricky continued to provide guidance and encouragement, performed on a few tracks, and released the Baby Namboos' debut album Ancoats 2 Zambia on his own Durban Poison imprint.
