Trembling Bells was a Scottish folk-rock group formed in 2008 by drummer Alex Neilson, a musician with a strong history of free and improvised playing with several artists. From 2012, the band has also recorded as the collaboration Trembling Bells & Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. In September 2018, frontwoman Lavinia Blackwall left the band and the band subsequently announced the split, with members focusing on individual projects.

Based in Glasgow, other members of the band, in addition to Neilson, have included Lavinia Blackwall (vocals, keyboard, guitar), Mike Hastings (guitar, harmonica, vocals) and Simon Shaw (bass, vocals).

Lavinia Blackwall had played previously with Neilson in Directing Hand and is a member of The Pendulums. Mike Hastings had played previously with Lavinia Blackwall in various projects including The Pendulums and is a songwriter and solo guitarist, as well as being one half of Mike and Solveig. Simon Shaw is also a member of Glasgow folk-rockers Lucky Luke.

The band's albums include Carbeth (2009), Abandoned Love (2010), The Constant Pageant (2011) through to Dungeness (2018).

In September 2018, frontwoman Lavinia Blackwall left the band and the band subsequently announced the split, with members focusing on individual projects. Their final release was a 2019 Record Store Day 10", I am the King, a joint work with Alex Neilson's solo project Alex Rex.

Lavinia Blackwall released her debut solo single "Waiting for Tomorrow" in December 2018, followed by an album, "Muggington Lane End", in May 2020.

Simon Shaw's band Youth of America released its debut album "YOA Rising" in January 2019 on Fighting Swans Records.
