Sonia Pottinger, Jamaica's first female producer in reggae history, opened her Tip Top Records shop in 1965 and began recording artists in 1966. She excelled in an extremely competitive realm dominated by men through a unique approach to record production, leaving a vast back catalogue of the most eminent quality. This show pulls together some of her finest moments. Compiled & mixed by Estelle Birch.

Runhild Gammelsæter

Runhild Gammelsæter

Runhild Gammelsæter has been played on NTS in shows including Henry Rollins, featured first on 1 December 2015. Songs played include The Stark Effect, Coming To and Evolution.

Runhild Gammelsæter is a musician from Holmestrand, Norway notable for being the vocalist for the American bands Thorr's Hammer and Khlyst. She is also a professional biologist.

Runhild Gammelsæter was a 17-year-old foreign exchange student from Norway in 1994 when she joined Thorr's Hammer along with Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson. After 6 weeks, which was the time it took to release Sannhet i Blodet and record Dommedagsnatt, the band split up due to Runhild returning to Oslo, Norway. Dommedagsnatt was released soon afterwards in 1996 via Southern Lord Records. The four other members of Thorr's Hammer went on to form the band Burning Witch.

In 2006, she helped form the band Khlyst along with James Plotkin and Tim Wyskida. The album Chaos is My Name was released the same year.

On June 28, 2008, her debut solo album, Amplicon, was released through Utech Records. The purpose was to create something organic - sound with and about life. A lonely thing, like life, arisen from void. Stillness and a microphone, vocal chords. An idea, thoughts, a goal. Sounds of cycles of life and death, birth and cessation, described with terminology from physics, chemistry and biology. Creating by amplifying an infinitely small idea, creating an Amplimer, an Amplicon. Amplicons are pieces of DNA formed as the products of natural or artificial amplification events. Like evolution, giving rise to animal forms with ability to reproduce and die. Amplifying from a minute non-tangible idea something larger which may be experienced with the auditory sense. In physics, matter creation is the appearance of elementary particles in physical processes; the opposite of annihilation. Amplicon sees Gammelsæter as a creation operator, increasing the number of particles in a given state, taking the operation necessary to amplify ideas to sound. Mixed by Tore Ylvisaker of Ulver.

In 2014 she released Quantum Entanglement together with Lasse Marhaug

Runhild Gammelsæter also has a PhD in cell physiology from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oslo. She is also a Fulbright Scholar, and is one of the shareholder of Norwegian biotechnology company Regenics A.S.
