(1) The Sydney trio Hashshashin blend meditative eastern sounds with drone, prog and psychedelia. Their album nihsahshsaH is inspired by the mystics of past and present, who fled their homes and walked out into the desert in search of something to soothe the roar of their broken minds. The sounds bring to mind scorched desert sands, the sweet scent of hashish, and the infinite blue of the sheltering sky. For fans of Masada, Secret Chiefs 3, Zu, Ssahha, Naadistan and who knows what else.
(2) Hashshashin, pronounced,'Hash-shesh-N', is a San Francisco based five piece. The band has been in its' current state since 2009. With influences ranging from Clutch, Sleep, The Jesus Lizard, Big Black… with the funeral heaviness of Black Sabbath laced with fringes of hardcore and an emphasis on laying down sludgy grooves. Their EP is recorded live at Different Fur Studios. The album is a great representation of their live act and is reminiscent of High on Fire's 'Death is this Communion' and strangely enough, Primus' Brown album. Heavy, gritty, dark, doom metal that gets up and runs around like an excited monster at times.
