Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain has been played on NTS over 10 times, featured on 9 episodes and was first played on 27 October 2012.

Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994) was an American musician. He was the lead vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter, and a founding member of the band Nirvana. Cobain was involved in the Seattle music scene, which later became associated with the grunge movement. He contributed to Nirvana's development through his songwriting, which addressed themes of personal struggle and social issues.

Cobain formed Nirvana in 1987 with Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard. Burckhard was replaced by Chad Channing, who performed on the band's debut album "Bleach" (1989) released by Sub Pop. Channing was later replaced by Dave Grohl, completing the lineup that achieved commercial success. With this formation, Nirvana signed with DGC and released the album "Nevermind" (1991), featuring the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Cobain wrote several other songs for Nirvana, including "Come as You Are", "Lithium", "In Bloom", "Heart-Shaped Box", "All Apologies", "About a Girl", "Aneurysm", "You Know You're Right" and "Something in the Way". Following the band's success, Cobain received public attention as a prominent figure in the rock music scene, though he was reportedly uncomfortable with this recognition.

In his later years, Cobain faced issues with heroin addiction, chronic depression, and physical health problems. He also experienced personal and professional pressures associated with fame, including public scrutiny of his marriage to musician Courtney Love, with whom he had a daughter named Frances. In March 1994, he underwent an intervention and detoxification program after an overdose on a combination of champagne and Rohypnol. Cobain was found dead on April 8, 1994, in the greenhouse of his Seattle home. Authorities concluded that he had died around April 5 from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.
