The most recent rendition of Charlie Don't Surf is a 3 piece instrumental band from Muncie, Indiana, who in 2005 released the album 'kvalitetsstøy', a kind of post-rock, math rock venture with hypnotic cool repetitive interludes interspaced with parts of complex and jarring convolutedness, and occasional diversions into rocking out and making a bit of a noise. The band was comprised of the following members:
Frank Reber - Bass and Synth Bryan Ayers - Drums and Aux Percussion Josh Vance - Guitars, FX Pedals and Synths
The Muncie band, Charlie Don't Surf, was formed in 2002 and disbanded in 2006. 7 tracks from that album are offered here as full previews and free mp3s to download, via the link to their album page. Free tracks can be downloaded at their offical website, charliexdontxsurf.bandcamp.com.
Alos, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Charlie, Don't Surf is a lo-fi jingle jangle indie-pop band. They actually write their name with a comma, and therefore have a separate artist page, reachable through the above link. Members: Rasmus Hedeman (Vocals and guitar) Mikkel Malmberg (Drums, backing vocals and screams) Mads Bøgh (Guitar, backing vocals and funny instruments) Jonas Andersen (Bass and backing vocals). They released an album called How Turkey Turned Into Being A Monster, 3 tracks of which are on the album page as full previews and free downloads.
Further back in time, Charlie Don't Surf was a post-punk band, based in Northampton, England, formed by members of previous post-punk band Re-set to Innocence and anarcho-punk/hardcore band Sedition. Existing around 1987-1990 their sound fused various influences with a strong element of the 'post hardcore' or 'pre grunge' US underground music of the time, with similarities to acts such as Squirrel Bait and Hüsker Dü, though influences are noticeable in their music, following on logically from the backgrounds of their members, which stray further into the realm of more accessible post-punk music on the one hand and more extreme hardcore music on the other. Unofficial mp3s of studio recordings and live performances exist, but their only official release was the track 'Fanatic' on a cassette-only compilation put out by the British Cold Spring Records (this was the label's, which is still going today as a key label in the 'industrial' scene, first release, and its cover is displayed on the label's webpage). The cassette also featured Psychic TV, Bruise, Sedition and The Grey Wolves among others. They also recorded one track 'Simpeep' for a planned vinyl compilation on Cold Spring, which was never completed. Both these tracks and 3 others are offered through here as full previews and free mp3s via the link for their Demos 1988-1990. The band played with such notable acts as Killdozer and Snuff. Their singer/songwriter and guitarist, Matt Felce, went on to form an act called Awesome Welles.
Charlie don't surf is also the name of a young upcoming house-producer from sweden, named Charlie Thorstenson
there was also a hardcore/punk band Charlie Don't Surf from Belgrade, Serbia. they quit when it became apparent it was going nowhere.
