Michel Rubini

Michel Rubini

Michel Rubini has been played on NTS over 10 times, featured on 13 episodes and was first played on 12 May 2017.

Born into a musical family, Michel Rubini started playing piano at the age of three.

A professional classical pianist since early childhood, he began his performing career as accompanist to his violinist father, Jan Rubini. At eighteen Michel left classical music behind and pursued his true love of music - blues, jazz, and rock 'n roll. Michel toured extensively with a range of bands, including stints with both Seals and Crofts and Loggins and Messina.

Though touring extensively in his early twenties, Rubini continued his composing and recording career. He gathered attention as a pianist and organist on his own records. He became one of the most sought-after Los Angeles session players in history, performing on albums by a hugely diverse list of artists ranging from Ray Charles to Frank Zappa, and Frank Sinatra to Barbra Streisand.

His talent motivated Motown Records into signing him as an artist, producer and writer, where he produced and arranged albums for Junior Walker, Thelma Huston and other Motown legends.

His unique writing style also caught the ear of motion picture directors such as Tony Scott, who signed him to score "The Hunger," and Michael Mann, who asked Rubini to score two films for him, "Manhunter" and "Band of The Hand." Following that road led him into a successful career of composing mini-series, HBO specials, movies of the week and the TV series "The Hitchhiker." His blues score for "Ride with the Wind" was reviewed as "one of the best of the year" and he has also composed a number of studio and independent feature films.
