Clifford Smith Jr. (born March 2, 1971), known professionally as Method Man, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and actor. He is a member of the East Coast hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan and one half of the hip hop duo Method Man & Redman.

Method Man released his debut solo album, "Tical," in 1994. The album reached number four on the Billboard 200 and produced the hit single "I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By" featuring Mary J. Blige, which won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 38th Annual Grammy Awards. The single also reached the top five of the Billboard Hot 100. Method Man and Blige later appeared together in the television series "Power Book II: Ghost," a spin-off of "Power."

In addition to his music career, Method Man has appeared in numerous films, including "187" (1997), "Belly" (1998), "How High" (2001), "Garden State" (2004), "Venom" (2005), "The Wackness" (2008), "Red Tails" (2012), "The Cobbler" (2014), "Keanu" (2016), and "Bad Shabbos" (2024). He and Redman co-starred in the Fox television sitcom "Method & Red."

Method Man has also held recurring roles in several HBO series, including Tug Daniels in "Oz," Melvin "Cheese" Wagstaff in "The Wire," and Rodney in "The Deuce." He appeared in the TBS comedy series "The Last O.G." as well.

His stage name was inspired by the 1979 martial arts film "Method Man."
