Wavis O'Shave collided with the music industry in 1979 with the release of a 4 track EP "DENIS SMOKES TABS/JOHN IS A FIGROLL", on an indie label called Company Records based in Lincoln, his surreal lyrics drawing a respectable amount of attention from the NME and THE SOUNDS in particular. Kudos include being refered to as 'The illegitimate love child of Spike Miligan by virgin birth', 'Alice Cooper with concussion' and 'Kraftwerk meets the Goons'. Wavis hails from South Shields in the North East of England and his local Tv Company TYNE TEES TELEVISION played host to a number of his comedy characters. Wavis soon became the Patron Saint of the cult VIZ COMIC. After a national hit with his album 'Anna Ford's Bum' released on the Newcasle AntiPop label in 1980 and endorsed by the lovely newreader herself, Wavis did a Dr Who regeneration into Foffo Spearjig who went on to feature on Channel 4's live music programme THE TUBE from 1982-87. Again his comedy characters earned him a cult status…..THE HARD…Mr Ordinary Powder and Mr Starey Oot. Wavis/Foffo released 'Tie your laces tight', a single on London Eccentric records in 1982, and apart from his 2004 indie release 'katie Derham's Bum' (not endorsed by Katie!) there have only been compilation albums available, and a favoured bootleg Cd 'Texican Raveloni (Bedside songs from problem children) Wavis, as from the onset, remains a mysteriously private figure, and yet retains his original cult status and fanbase. Wavis/Foffo's Myspace site at; www.myspace.com/wavisoshave feature a few of his classic trax. For some classic footage of the Wavester and his many guises, visit; www.youtube.com/coalseamwig
