Empress Of

Empress Of hosted a guest show on 9 August 2023. Empress Of has been played over 20 times on NTS, first on 23 July 2015. Empress Of's music has been featured on 26 episodes.

Empress Of is an American singer, songwriter, and producer based in Los Angeles. She first gained attention in 2012 by anonymously releasing a series of one-minute demos on YouTube titled Colorminutes. Her first 7" single, "Champagne," was released later that year through No Recordings. Her stage name was inspired by a tarot card reading: the first card pulled was The Empress, associated with fertility, strength, and creativity.

Her debut album, Me (2015), was self-produced and recorded in Mexico, featuring the singles "Water Water" and its Spanish version "Agua Agua." The album blends minimalist electronic pop with introspective lyrics, exploring themes of love, identity, and self-expression.

Her sophomore album, Us (2018), includes collaborations with Dev Hynes and DJDS and presents a more collaborative approach than her debut. The record combines electronic pop, R&B, and experimental elements, focusing on themes of community, love, and personal growth.

Her third studio album, I'm Your Empress Of (2020), showcases a polished, emotionally resonant sound, merging pop experimentalism, dance-pop, and R&B. Lyrically, it addresses heartbreak, identity, and resilience, pairing introspective storytelling with rhythmic, danceable production.

Her fourth high-anticipated studio album, For Your Consideration (2024), was released via her own label Major Arcana with distribution from Giant Music. Produced across Los Angeles, Miami, and Montreal with contributions from Nick León, Umru, Casey MQ, and Valley Girl, the album features guest appearances from Rina Sawayama on "Kiss Me" and MUNA on "What's Love." It blends pop, electronic, and R&B elements, continuing Rodriguez’s exploration of love, identity, and vulnerability. A deluxe version released in October 2024 includes the previously unreleased track "Loud" along with alternative versions and remixes.

Throughout her career, Rodriguez has collaborated with Khalid, Kimbra, Jamie Lidell, Florence + The Machine, Allie X, and Girl Ultra. Her music blends pop, electronic, and experimental sounds with bilingual lyrics, often exploring themes of identity, love, and vulnerability.
