International recognition of her work grew in the twenty-first century, particularly following the release of Ethiopiques 21 in 2006. Emahoy passed away in 2023 at the age of 99, leaving behind a remarkable musical legacy that continues to inspire audiences worldwide through ongoing recordings, performances, and the work of the Emahoy Tsege Mariam Music Foundation.
