Shelleyan Orphan

Shelleyan Orphan has been played on NTS in shows including Sendspaace , featured first on 13 May 2018. Songs played include Epitaph Ivy And Woe, Beamheart and Theme.

Shelleyan Orphan was British alt-music duo Caroline Crawley (died 2016) and Jem Tayle. An enterprising and innovative band who peaked during the 1980s and early 1990s. Their first album, Helleborine, appeared in 1987. Their sophomore release, Century Flower, led to their larger commercial recognition.

Robert Smith of the Cure became a big fan and gave them the opening slot during the US leg of the 1989 Disintegration tour. During that tour relationships were forged with Porl Thompson (Cure lead guitarist at the time) and Boris Williams (Cure drummer at the time) who would play on many tracks of their 3rd album, Humroot, released in 1992.

Shortly after Humroot's release, Shelleyan Orphan disbanded. Tayle formed his own band, Elephantine, and Crawley formed Babacar. Soon after, Tayle joined Babacar as a full-time member, though not contributing to the songwriting.

In 2000, the duo reunited to record a cover of Tim Buckley's "Buzzin' Fly" for Sing a Song for You: A Tribute to Tim Buckley.

Their album "We Have Everything We Need" was released in October 2008 on One Little Indian Records.
