Ryan Porter is a jazz trombonist based out of Los Angeles, California, United States.

A member of the acclaimed and infamous West Coast Get Down, which includes modern jazz wunderkind Kamasi Washington, Porter has been instrumental in the revitalisation of the genre, and its resurgence in the mainstream — driven by a heavy involvement in hip-hop.

His 2018 album The Optimist was received with widespread critical acclaim, with critic Kevin Press concluding fittingly that "[e]very one of these 11 tracks will lift your spirits." Laid down across 2008 and 2009 in the basement of Kamasi Washington's parents' home, known as The Shack, and sharing much of the same personnel as Washington's own 3LP breakout hit The Epic.
