The former lead singer of The Blue Things, Valerian Richard Stecklein (born 1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas) recorded one solo album under the name Val Stoecklein, called Grey Life, in 1968. The album sunk into obscurity when Stoecklein refused to promote it, bailing on a planned national tour at the last minute. In the years since its release, the record has become something of a cult favorite. Stoecklein released one final single, All The Way Home, in 1969 before dropping out of the limelight completely. He committed suicide in May 1993 aged just 52.
