Tony Borders

Tony Borders

Tony Borders has been played on NTS shows including Light in the Attic, with Cheaters Never Win first played on 13 August 2018.

While commercially obscure, Tony Borders recorded a string of great soul tracks of comparable quality to contemporaries like Otis Redding, and Percy Sledge. His earliest known recording is a 1961 single for the Delta label. He also recorded a handful of early 60's singles for Smash and the Hall label associated with producer Rick Hall. He did the bulk of his sessions with producer Quin Ivy in Muscle Shoals Alabama in the late 1960's. A UK compilation on the "soulscape" label has assembled several cuts from 45s originally released from 1967 to 1970 on South Camp, Revue, Uni and Quinvy labels. Some of Borders old material did not surface until the 1990's.
