Gordon Thomas

Gordon Thomas has been played on NTS shows including Jonny Trunk Plays God, with Valerie first played on 10 September 2018.

Gordon Thomas is a 93-year-old singer/songwriter based in New York City. He has been recording and independently releasing his own music since the late 1960s. Before that, he was a big-band trombonist who worked with many artists including Dizzy Gillespie. Gordon is also an artisan who makes all his own clothes with a needle and thread. His songs – catchy and simple, peculiar and personal – are a kind of musical folk art.

For years, Gordon Thomas’ life was a mystery even to his tiny but devoted fan base. His strange and wonderful music circulated among a network of musicians, collectors and aficionados, with barely a hint as to when, where or how the songs were created. In 2005, Montreal-based filmmakers Stacey DeWolfe and Malcolm Fraser released a documentary about Gordon entitled Everything's Coming My Way. Since this time, Gordon has continued to write and record music and made occasional live appearances. In 2008, Gordon released his newest self-produced album, also titled Everything's Coming My Way, produced by Taylor Savvy and featuring contributions from Mocky and Gonzales.
