Brix Smith (aka Laura Elisse Salenger) is an American singer and guitarist, best known for introducing a pop influence to The Fall, and as lead singer with Adult Net. She has also released two solo albums. She was married to Fall vocalist Mark E. Smith between 1983 and 1989, appearing on the band's albums between Perverted by Language (1983) and Seminal Live (1989), and later rejoining the group for Cerebral Caustic (1995) and The Light User Syndrome (1996). Following her break-up with Mark E. Smith, Brix had a relationship with violinist Nigel Kennedy, and later married Philip Start, with whom she co-owns the Start clothes shop. She also is famously obsessed with model train sets and caterpillars. In late 2014 she started the band Brix and the Extricated with ex-Fall members Steve Hanley, Paul Hanley and Steven Trafford.
