Across the Horizon is a bold exploration of where Americana’s roots intersect with the boundless expanse of ambient music. Hosted by Bob Holmes, member of SUSS, and host of the popular Ambient Country podcast, this unique program invites you into a realm where sound becomes landscape, and music transcends genre, inviting listeners to wander through vast, uncharted spaces of sonic possibility.

Vår

Vår

Vår has been played on NTS in shows including Liquid Mirror w/ Olive Kimoto, featured first on 24 May 2014. Songs played include In Your Arms (Final Fantasy), No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers and 世界落日 = The World Fell.

The young Danish musicians Elias Ronnenfelt and Loke Rahbek make songs that sound like dance music played through a long PVC tube filled with steel wool and muddy gauze. Lo-fi, punk-inspired sounds are in the duo's musical DNA: Ronnenfelt also plays in the bands Iceage and Marching Church and Rahbek, most notably is apart of synthpop band Lust For Youth and ambient project Croatian Amor, as well as co-runs the Copenhagen-based independent label Posh Isolation.

Known until recently as War (another band with the same name objected), the duo are announcing a new name today: VÅR. VÅR is pronounced like "War," but the meaning and the date the band chose to announce the change suggest a shift. Vår is the Danish word for "spring," and May 5 marks the anniversary of end of the Nazi occupation of Denmark.

"The name change happens in spring and is named thereafter," the duo wrote. "The name also states a new beginning for the project, that has been going on for already a few years by now. Starting as a post-industrial project releasing ltd. cassettes and now to be a multi media project, where in sound and image is of equal importance.

"VÅR is not music in a sense. its more like a way to wear your shirt and holding an arm around your friends."

Vår apparently disbanded sometime in 2013 or 2014, Rahbek stating: "We played the last ever Vår Show and everywhere you looked there would be Japanese people in tears. I played a Croatian Amor show in a queer goth club called Club Sodom at 3.30 in the morning and had beautiful boys painted white with me on stage as props. After the show these Japanese gay goths took us to an old run down gay bar that Mishima used to frequent, we spoke to the old bartender that could tell stories of what he had been like. And we have had snow fights, and of course we sing karaoke. Everything is lit up, it is like a fantasy place. If this is what the future is going to be like, its really not that bad."
