Apple Boutique

Apple Boutique has been played on NTS shows including World in Flo Motion, with Love Resistance first played on 27 November 2018.

Apple Boutique are a 1980s jangle guitar band formed by Phil King and John Mohan around 1986. Both were formerly members of The Servants. As well as being associated with many other notable acts of the 80s and 90s, including: Felt; Lush, See See Rider, Second Layer, Biff Bang Pow! and The Jesus and Mary Chain, among others. The full contributors to Apple Boutique were Philip King (vocals, guitar & bass); John Mohan (lead guitar), Don Bothwell (bass), Paul Gregory (drums), Owen Seymour (drums) and Emily Brown (backing vocals). During their time Apple Boutique only officially released the one EP via Creation Records the 12" 'Love Resistance EP' in 1987. Although virtually unknown, their EP has developed over time a cult appeal due to the band members various affiliated bands that they've been in, it is also one of Creation's forgotten gems. An outstanding example of late 1980s jangle pop. Showcasing the guitar interplay of former Servants Phil King and John Mohan, with a heavy influence from the 1960s and The Shadows in particular (whom they named a song about the legendary Shadows bassist Jet Harris). The 'Love Resistance' EP's peak is arguably the catchy title track and the lovely jangle guitar instrumental track the ballad of jet harris. Rumours, hints and hopes of more material have been in the pipeline ever since Apple Boutique called it a day after their one and only EP and just a dozen or so live shows in 1987. All the songs are written by Phil King except 'The Ballad of Jet Harris' which is co-written by both Phil King and John Mohan. Followers of the band and its two most famous members, as well as of the bands they've been in previously, will have had their prayers answered during the Christmas period of 2012, when 'Paraphernalia' a digipack CD collection of the unreleased Apple Boutique album, including two tracks produced by the late great Adrian Borland the frontman of The Sound, as well as other demos and all their other collected recordings was released via Vollwert Records. Apple Boutique are one of those unheard of artists that you should discover, and once you do you'll be blown away and wonder why the heck haven't I heard of them before.
