Jamire Williams is a thriving, world renowned musician, producer and composer on the New York City scene. A native of Houston, TX, Jamire displayed a God given talent on the drums at a very early age which he has honed and perfected over the years. He is a graduate of Houston’s Grammy Award winning High School for the Performing & Visual Arts, which has also produced the likes of Beyonce Knowles and super-producer Brian-Micheal Cox. After moving to New York, he received his B.F.A. in Jazz and Contemporary Music from New School University and was chosen as recipient of the university’s Young Beacon Award.
Currently Jamire leads his own band ERIMAJ which the New York Times has referred to as ”music…properly new, part of something larger, and still unnamed.” While still finding time to work as a preeminent sideman, Jamire has toured, performed and/or recorded with such notable artists as Bilal, Solange Knowles, Roy Hargrove, Jason Moran, Christian Scott, Robert Glasper, Corrine Bailey Rae, Renee Neufville, Cubic Zirconia, Eric Roberson, Pharoah Sanders, Kenny Garrett, Terence Blanchard, GURU, DJ Logic, Jacky Terrasson, Bobby Hutcherson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Tiombe Lockhart, Stefon Harris & Gretchen Parlato to name a few. Recently voted in Downbeat Magazine’s Critic Poll Rising Star Drum category, he’s definitely one to keep your eye on.
