A special hour on Editions Syliphone Conakry, the Guinean state-funded record label that ran from 1967 to 1986, across the tenure of President Sékou Touré. The purpose of the label was to support and promote Guinean traditional and national music, at home and abroad. Since its independence from France in 1958, Guinea's artists had been radicalised by an official cultural policy that sought to modernise the arts while still being faithful to the traditional roots. It was a policy called authenticité, and music was its prime focus. Under the policy each region in Guinea, some 34 in total, were represented by artistic troupes. These consisted of an orchestra, a traditional music ensemble, a choir, and a theatrical group. The government purchased new musical instruments for the orchestras, at a huge cost, and encouraged the groups to write songs about topics such as African nationalism, anti-colonialism, and anti-imperialism. The Syliphone label thus captured a moment in African history when a new nation asserted its voice and placed music at the forefront of its cultural identity. Their’s is a story that is intertwined with the political struggle for independence in Africa.

Mere Mortals

Mere Mortals

Mere Mortals has been played on NTS shows including Yesterday's News, with Normal first played on 15 January 2020.

Mere Mortals Is A Name Shared By Three Bands, each ones with different styles in sound and energy.

One person, aethelyon, had this to say, "Sound as if they're angling for a spot in the Britpop pantheon, nurturing a jangly, neo-psychedelic sound that brings to mind early Primal Scream, Supergrass or maybe Oasis as fronted by a man who smiles at the world rather than sneers. The merry band of do-it yourselfers self-released the all-wheat, no-chaff "Rebel Radio" EP late last year, and several of the disc's seven songs cracked the specialty charts (which track the amount of airplay on "specialty" shows where the DJs program their own music). German-born, London-reared Axel Steuerwald's deft songwriting touch makes the Mortals slam-dunks to make Jonesy's jukebox. Maybe they can make yours too."

Another had this to say, "Mere Mortals, the Duo consisting of Dan Handrabur and his wife Cristina Handrabur, has been in evolution for five years as a downtempo side-project reflecting his other worldly influences and indigenous perimeters.

The result of these explorations has brought about a richly distinct ethno-morphic dub 'n'bass flavored sound that often glides between the worlds of pop substance and avant-garde electronicisms."

The first description belongs to the album Mondegreen Dream

And the latter description applies to the rest of the albums.

2) Heavy Metal, Hard Rock band from the US, with an album from 1998 called Face

3) Fastcore/Hardcore Punk band from Lille - France
