Chemistry Set

Chemistry Set

Chemistry Set has been played on NTS in shows including Got Kinda Lost Records Presents Planet Fever, featured first on 4 March 2020. Songs played include April Fools.

1) Psychedelic pop/rock band from London, formed in 1987. Band members included Ashley Wood (guitar and vocals), Paul Lake (lead guitar and vocals), David Mclean (drums and vocals), and Henry Taprell (bass). Released their first album "Wake Up Sometime!" in 1990. This band should be tagged as The Chemistry Set.

2) Melbourne's AUS Chemistry Set were formed late in 2005 by Denny Cruse with his then-girlfriend Sam Carroll and were soon joined by Denny's brother Tim Nelthorpe; together the three worked on a handful of songs with a view to developing a live set. The band played their debut live gig at The Barley Corn Hotel in April 2006 not long after they recruited band-friend Brad Charman to fill the drummers role.

Since then the band has undergone a number of line-up changes, with Michael Wetter replacing Carroll on bass in 2007 and David Froude taking over from Charman on drums soon after. The band has also experimented with a 5th member when playing live on occasion.

The band came to wider notice during a busy 2010, regularly headlining gigs as a part of Melbourne's thriving live music scene, earning local press exposure in the process. The year concluded with Chemistry Set releasing their debut EP, The Formula, at a launch party at Fitzroy's Revellers Bar North, before finishing their schedule supporting Regurgitator at the Middle Hotel.

The Formula was recorded and engineered by Lee Cardan, with songs written by Cruse. The EP's distinctive art work was created by Simon Childerhouse.
