Jim Fyhrie

Jim Fyhrie has been played on NTS shows including Cooking with Palms Trax, with Light Dance first played on 8 April 2020.

Jim Fyhrie is an exceptional human for so many reasons. First would be his welcoming smile that says come on in and enjoy. His musical talent will take you to another place. A place between reality and a spiritual place the Scottish people know so very well. It is a place of the past, of long ago where the creek runs over the rocks and covered by a forest of trees, animals mist and mystic. Jim's music is stand alone and just may take you back to a life before, a life you may not even realize you knew about. It will be a journey through his mind played through his beautiful hammered dulcimer. The songs you will not hear on your local radio, MTV or the like but his music will stay in your head and soul once you have taken the time to listen. Again, Jim will take you to places long ago.

I know Jim personally, in fact I own his personal competition hammered dulcimer. It took years to talk him into selling it to me. In fact I had to wait the year I received it from him for the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Canyon to end. Jim would not disappoint anyone who came to hear him by letting me take it any sooner. Jim built it by hand in his Plectrum Dulcimer shop right up the street in Laguna Canyon. I had visited him there many times and if any of you are fortunate enough to own one of his master built instruments then I can tell you why it took so long to receive. He took great care in every facet of its build. He chose the finest hard woods from around the world. Mine is made mostly from Koa which is found in a favorite place of Jim's in Hawaii. He used every bit not to waste anything. From the onset to completion Jim put a piece of himself in every instrument. Care for it well and it will bring you thousands of hours. Mine is one of a kind with a double split bridge and will go places only your mind can follow.

Jim is a gentle soul and has since moved to Eureka Springs Arkansas as told to me by Jim before moving to purchase and run a BNB or two. He would be a fabulous host as he is intelligent, kind, funny and a talented musician. I would love to see Jim again as I too am an artist, a blacksmith who was fortunate enough to peddle my items in Laguna Canyon where I met Jim over 30 years ago. He has left CA with a true following of wonderful friends, never an enemy and forever loved by everyone who had the pleasure to meet and especially know Jim. We all miss you at Sawdust Jim….we hope you will be back one year as the place seems somehow empty without your beautiful music wafting through the tall trees.
