Malmö Symphony Orchestra

Malmö Symphony Orchestra

Malmö Symphony Orchestra has been played on NTS shows including Tafelmusik w/ Francesco Fusaro, with Peer Gynt Suite No. 2, Op. 55 first played on 9 October 2020.

The Malmö Symphony Orchestra (MSO) consists of a hundred highly talented musicians who constantly demonstrate their skills in a broad and multifaceted range of concerts. While carrying forward the traditions of the symphonic repertoire, the orchestra makes strenuous efforts to remain at the forefront of contemporary symphonic trends and develop new concert concepts, including computer-game music and adventure themes. The Teddy Bear concerts for the youngest members of the family are a brand name. Malmö Concert House’s audience base is large and enthusiastic, and MSO’s concerts attract, on average, around 90% capacity audiences. The record labels Naxos and BIS give the orchestra international exposure and several of its recordings have gained international awards, with recognition including the Cannes Classical Award and Diapason d’Or. The orchestra’s recording of Berwald’s symphonies, under the direction of Sixten Ehrling has been nominated for one of the world’s most prestigious prizes, the Gramophone Award. One of the latest releases of music by the American composer Charles Ives (Naxos 8.559353) has won great acclaim and was selected as Editor’s Choice/Recording of the month in October 2008 by the British Classical Music Magazine Gramophone. Vassily Sinaisky was appointed principal conductor of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra in 2007.
