Coltrane Day on NTS

19.09.23 words by Will Dickson

This coming Saturday 23rd September, NTS presents Coltrane Day, a special all-day broadcast dedicated to revolutionary jazz musician John Coltrane. Presented on what would have been his 97th birthday, the broadcast will be an exciting chance for fans to dive deeper into Coltrane’s work, whilst providing an introductory primer for new fans keen to learn more.

Featuring interviews and explorations by noted Coltrane experts such as historian and writer Ben Ratliff (author of Coltrane: The Story of a Sound), diving into the musician’s early years, as well as legendary bassist Ron Carter giving his take on Coltrane's artistry and performances. NTS resident Rahill compiles a two-hour mix exploring his work on seminal label Impulse, whilst artist and musician Naima Karlsson – granddaughter of Moki and Don Cherry – compiles a soundscape of music featuring Coltrane’s many collaborators and band members.

Tune in from 12pm-12am BST on Saturday 23rd September on nts.live
