DISCOSTAN x ASYMPTOTE JOURNAL
Los Angeles, 28.07.21
Onward and upward! The first issue of Asymptote’s second decade features Hoda Barakat, Bruno Latour, Can Xue, Hwang Sok-yong, Gabriel Payares, and Lêdo Ivo, confirming that “we all live in a beautifully round world.” This Asymptote Discostan playlist presents works of literature spanning 35 countries along with music inspired by the authors’ geographies and experiences. From poems in Uyghur and Arabic that speak to the condition of exile to fiction centered around the female experience from motherhood to the corosovie effects of work on identity - our summer issue lineups speak to one another. From the Special Feature, you will hear fiction from India and Ethiopia addressing the current divisiveness of our times. Bearing witness as well is Palestine poet Olivia Elias, who tells us about Gaza and the devastating impact of war. This work and more is available for free at asymptotejournal.com.
Asymptote Discostan was prepared by MK Harb (@grungyflaneur) | MK Harb is a writer and researcher currently serving as Editor at Large for Lebanon at Asymptote Journal.
