Naya Beat Records Volume 2

Filip Nikolic (aka Turbotito) and Raghav Mani (aka Ragz) are the co-founders of Naya Beat, a reissue and rework label dedicated to uncovering foundational electronic and dance music from the subcontinent and South Asian diaspora. On today’s show they host a preview of their forthcoming compilation “Naya Beat Volume 2: South Asian Dance And Electronic Music 1988-1994” (out this Friday, November 1st 2024), which uncovers music from an overlooked era of South Asian house, street soul, and downtempo originally released between 1988 and 1994. Often too Asian for mainstream success in the West, and too Western for success in Asia, the pioneering music from this time was frequently released to relative obscurity.
