The term "Dog Days" (German: Hundstage) refers to the hottest days of the year during summer. Originally, the expression relates to a period of about 30 days associated with the heliacal rising of the star Sirius, also known as the Dog Star. In many cultures, this period was associated with a time of particularly intense heat and drought.
