IN FOCUS: TAKASHI KOKUBO

A pioneer in the distinctly Japanese sonics of "environmental" sound design, composer Takashi Kokubo began his solo career in the early 1980s, making synthesizer compositions inspired by classical music in the vein of fellow Japanese composer Isao Tomita, but across the following decades, his productions would pay deep homage to the sounds of the natural world and its spiritually soothing properties – as both inspiration for his music, and as a prominent feature in the music itself.

DJ and producer Andrea Parker was involved or present in a curiously long list of notable moments in UK electronic music, from releasing music on Andrew Weatherall's early label outings, to working with iconic UK imprint Mo Wax, to her presence at the full swing of the country's pioneering IDM scene, to helping birth UK bass music with her own moody, low end-heavy productions.

Her work as a remixer and collaborator stretches further still, having worked with Steve Reich, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
