Focus on Datblygu

Datblygu (Welsh for "developing" or "develop") formed in Aberteifi, Wales in the early 1980s, and are considered to be the driving force behind the new wave of Welsh rock that exploded midway through the decade. Their experimental post-punk, minimal synth sound and vocalist David R. Edwards cambrophone lyrics expressing intense dissatisfaction with life Wales under Thatcher, led to their music being largely ignored on mainstream Welsh radio and television. They are frequently cited as inspiration to many Welsh bands that followed, including Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals.

Kiernan Abbott of Fragments in Wax pays tributes to some unsung heroes in the narrative of leftfield British music, with an hour of their best material.
