In Focus: Friendzone
Oakland producers James Laurence and Dylan Reznick, working together under the moniker Friendzone, helped to define the hazy, emotive sound known as cloud rap in the early 2010s. Their weightless, pad-heavy style paired well with a new wave of Main Attrakionz, Yung Lean and A$AP Rocky.
This hour-long edition of IN Focus gathers a selection of Friendzone instrumentals from across their back catalogue, including solo productions and collabs. After the passing of James Laurence in 2017, Friendzone's output ceased, though their influence continues to be felt across a new wave of underground, internet-raised hip-hop.
