Trap

Few producers working today can take as much credit as Atlanta's Lex Luger for shaping the aesthetic of popular music from the past 10 years. Building on Southern rap's penchant for swing and bounce, Luger's work for artists like Waka Flocka Flame popularised rifling triplet hi-hats and bombastic horn samples, birthing trap music as an instantly recognisable sound.

The sound is now so ubiquitous as to be invisible, being recycled in everything from commercials to children's TV and teen pop, but Luger's productions – for a diverse cast of the South's greatest living rappers, and beyond - still hammer speakers that much harder than his imitators.
