The brave pioneer of the "neo-soul" sound, Russell Elevado's penchant for vintage equipment and analog warmth came to define an era of popular R'n'B music. A soul born out of time, he first came to critical prominence with D'Angelo's critically acclaimed 2000 release Voodoo, and went on to collaborate, produce and engineer for a staggering breadth of artists covering everyone from Animal Collective to J Dilla and Kamasi Washington. Max Tundra’s Rotogravure

With Max Tundra

Max Tundra’s Rotogravure comes home to NTS, returning to the airwaves after a seven-year absence. The original show went out on Resonance FM every week between 2007 and 2011. Those tuning in could expect to hear a truly eclectic mixture of music, from calm to unsettling, with acts like Harmonia, Ivor Cutler, Material, The Fiery Furnaces, Autechre, Cornelius, Joyce Sims, Ultra Vivid Scene, John Adams, Bill Nelson, Sheila E, Melvins, Toumani Diabaté, Ruins, Leoncie, The Supremes, Haruomi Hosono, Arthur Russell, Unique 3, Steely Dan, Ligeti, Tonto’s Expanding Head Band, Solex, Todd Rundgren, Phuture, The Fugs, Royal Trux, Scritti Politti and hundreds of others from Tundra’s record collection, which he began amassing at the age of 7 after wandering into his local newsagent and buying one of the 49p ex-jukebox 7”s on offer in those days (probably “I’m In The Mood For Dancing” by The Nolans).
