Arturo Kameya

Peruvian artist Arturo Kameya, whose work is featured in the exhibition Your Ears Later Will Know to Listen at Nottingham Contemporary, shares a special selection of golden-era chicha music, music which might have been played in the scenes he depicts in his artworks Sonido Majestic III and Sonido Majestic, featured in the exhibition. Arturo Kameya’s artwork examines the narratives and myths that comprise different versions of history. Kameya works with various mediums, including acrylic, plaster, film, and printmaking. His multimedia artworks are often arranged together to create large-scale installations that delineate connections between disparate historical events, linking together a range of visual cultural languages which have been formed over time. Recent works examine the possibility of constructing a transversal narrative from disparate layers of recent history within the Peruvian urban context.
