A trip through the catalogue of short-lived but deeply influential label Black Jazz Records. Founded by Gene Russell in Oakland, the label ran from 1971 to 1975, focussing on showcasing Black musicians, and exploring free jazz, funk, soul jazz, along with spiritual themes and at times explicit political rhetoric.
