Bluegrass was punk before punk. Its roots in Southern Black Spiritual, Appalachian party music, and early immigrant protest tunes - make me feel the same subversive power as the first time I heard Bad Brains. It’s a powerful, storytelling music pillared by the struggle of reshaping everyday pains into joy. I hope the strange and beautiful history represented by the music in this mix moves you as much as it moves me.
