About a month after I first started exploring/obsessing over the above bands, I came across the Internet Archive’s Netlabel Collection, a library of independently released mp3’s from the early to mid 00’s. I was immediately struck by the similarities I heard between some of these releases found on the Netlabel archive, and the newly coined genres of "Cloud Rock" and "Laptop Twee" (created by Eli Enis and JC of the band friends& respectively), both of which focus on a chopped, glitched, electroacoustic, and most importantly digital sound.
Those odd moments where vintage and contemporary blur together always feel very special to me, so I spent the next few months chasing that high, digging between the couch cushions of the world wide web, combining my findings from the Netlabel archive with tracks pulled from extensive searches on Discogs, Youtube and Soulseek, until I compiled a satisfactory list of extremely obscure folktronica/indietronica/glitch pop that managed fit in line with the contemporary music I’ve fallen in love with. I hope it sounds ok.
