Lesser heard sounds with a focus on femmes in punk from artist and musician Sara A.
An hour of recordings from one of the finest jazz vibraphone players ever to hold the mallets. Raised in Philadelphia, Khan Jamal began playing vibes (and later marimba) as a teenager in the 1960s. By the end of the decade and into the 1970s, Khan would become a notable figure in the more exploratory fringes of the jazz scene, playing with drummer and free jazz pioneer Sunny Murray, and playing a role in Sun Ra's Arkestra. Jamal would be one of the first artists to bridge the oftentimes disparate attitudes of free jazz and jazz fusion, creating work that straddled both. Photo: Jan Persson

Loma Prieta is a screamo band, featuring members of Archeopteryx, Punch, Sailboats, Beau Navire and Us, Haunted Bodies, that formed in San Francisco in 2005. Since formation, they have released four 12 inch records, and two 7 inch records (mostly on their own label), however their newest LP, "I.V." was released on Deathwish Records, home of bands such as Converge, and Trap Them
From their Facebook page, "While Loma Prieta’s sound is difficult to describe, it is clear that they come from the rich tradition of creative Bay Area hardcore bands such as Mohinder, Funeral Diner, Bread and Circuits, Yaphet Kotto, and Indian Summer. Eschewing sub-genres in favor of organically writing songs that are personally fulfilling, each Loma Prieta record is substantially different from the last. Nonetheless, Loma Prieta have managed to forge a distinctive form of expression that is entirely their own."
