United Continuo Ensemble

United Continuo Ensemble has been played on NTS in shows including Tafelmusik w/ Francesco Fusaro, featured first on 6 May 2019. Songs played include Courante Per la X.

The United Continuo Ensemble was founded in 1995 by Jörg Meder and is a formation of musicians specializing in basso continuo instruments. The ensemble works with singers, dancers, actors and other instrumentalists in various sizes and has made a special name for itself: “They are experts on continuo instruments… They provide the right foundation for almost every genre of the baroque and are brilliantly attuned to each other: serviceable continuo spirits that you can call and then certainly don't want to get rid of…" (Concerto, Magazine for Early Music)

The United Continuo Ensemble made its debut at the International Freden Music Days and has since been a guest at major festivals in Germany, France, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Mexico and the USA: Rheingau Music Festival, Göttingen Handel Festival, Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival, Days of Early Music Herne, Arols Baroque Festival, Landshut Court Music Days, Franconian Summer, Mosel Music Festival, Festival Time Slot in the Konzerthaus Berlin, Mozart Festival Würzburg, Residence Concerts Munich, Banchetto Musicale Vilnius, Crocavia Danza Court Festival Krakow, Mazovia Goes Baroque Warsaw, Festival VivaVivaldi and Festival Santo Domingo de Música Antigua, Mexico City and Festival International Huatulco.

For various programs, the United Continuo Ensemble cooperated with other ensembles and artists such as the Pegasus Theater which specializes in Commedia dell'Arte, the Freie Tanztheater Frankfurt, Crocavia Danza and the Ensemble amarcord Leipzig. In September 2008, UCS produced the opera production “Les Fetes d’Hébé” by Jean-Philippe Rameau at the Bayreuth Baroque in the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth and founded the “Compagnie Opéra Baroque” - an association of various cooperation partners and ensembles to carry out opera productions. UCS realized the opera in 2012 “Sardanapalus” by Christian Ludwig Boxberg in the historic Ekhof Theater Gotha as part of the Ekhof Festival and at the Franconian Summer in Seehaus Castle.

Another important part of the United Continuo Ensemble's work is crossover, the combination of historically informed interpretations with modern, experimental aspects in close collaboration with jazz musicians, flamenco musicians or contemporary dancers. For example, the United Continuo Ensemble realized the dance theater production “O Eternity, Du Thunderword” for EXPO 2000. The program “Fiesta Española” - flamenco and Spanish music of the 16th/17th. Century was released on CD in 2005 and received international awards.
