Gabriela Beňačková

Gabriela Beňačková has been played on NTS in shows including Tommasi, featured first on 25 December 2021. Songs played include Rusalko, Znáš Mne, Znáš? / Rusalka, Daughter, I Am Here.

Gabriela Beňačková (born 1947 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia) is a world-famous Slovakian soprano with Czech citizenship.

Since 1970 she has worked as a soloist with the National Theatre in Prague, where she has sung many roles within the Czech, Russian and Italian repertoires. Since 1974 she has also been a soloist of the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She achieved great successes in London's Covent Garden and at other opera venues, e.g., Salzburg, Cologne, etc. She has made numerous recitals and recordings.

Her vocal skills perfectly show vividness and lightness and have gained her many admirers. She is admired for the unique breadth of repertoire having once sang the lead character in Smetana's Libuse in 1983 at the reopening of the National Theatre in Prague. Her most famous roles, however, have been the characters of Jenůfa and Kaťa Kabánová in Janáček's operas. Of important note is the use of her voice as the character of Emma Destinová (played by Božidara Turzonovová) in the biographical film The Divine Emma.
