Around the end of 1984 Romeo (Drums), Roberto (bass), Fausto (Guitar) and Maurizio (Synthesiser) were a band called "Wall of Death" that was looking for a vocalist. In December of that year Dario Antonetti joined the band who then became known as Kryptästhesie. A few months later the rough and ready private release "Leaves Laughter", which had been recorded on a four track, was picking up reviews that described it as a balance between post-punk, dark new-wave and experimental psychedelia. 1985 and 1986 were spent composing new material and in the Summer of 1987 the band released a second cassette "Any Water Knows". This was an even more eclectic affair featuring Giovanni on tablas and cumbuc (a kind of Turkish banjo). By the end of these recording sessions Roberto (bass) had left the band which immediately returned to a quartet. From then on Fausto and Dario would alternate between bass and guitars. "Any Water Knows" sounded a bit more refined than the debut tape and continued the evolution of the electric compositions from long extended jams through to more acoustic moments. The cassette gained good reviews in the mainstream and undergound press and as a result the band managed to obtain gigs in Northern Italy. In 1989 Kryptästhesie released a self financed 7" that was given away with "Snowdonia" (a well known undergound fanzine) and sold via undeground contacts all over Europe. In 1990 Giovanni joined the band on a full time basis playing various acoustic instruments (Houd, Saz, cumbuc, flutes, bouzouki etc) which added a strange ethnic sound to tha bands music. By 1992 Kryptästhesie had managed to record and finance a whole double LP of new material called "Shaken At The Sun". This showcased the rapidly expanding soundscape of the band from almost new-wave psychedelic garage through various underground contacts in Europe and America and even picked up airplay on Radio One via the ever open-minded Mark Radcliffe. 1993/94 saw the band developing their free form approach to a greater degree and after recruiting another percussionist Cosma, they began work on the Inner Whirl album which was immediately snapped up by Delerium, upon completion. Whilst the band were waiting for Delerium to get their act together and release the album, they put out another self financed release in the shape of a 10" orange vinyl EP called "The Bodynaught"/"Dream Machine" which showcased a more ambient side to the band. Kryptästhesie are a wonderful combination of progressive, psychedelic and alternative rock styles that challenges the ears and mind….
