Grupo Limite, formed in 1995 in Monterrey Mexico, defined the style and set the pace for pop norteno music throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. With a power-norteno base contrasted against the almost falsetto high-pitched vocal style of lead singer Alicia Villarreal, the group catapulted to star status, unlike anything else on the market. Limite saw a long series of #1 hits on the Mexican charts and on the Billboard Latin Album and Hot Latin Tracks lists in the U.S., from their debut album Por Puro Amor through their final release, Soy Asi.
